The Curator of Academic Programs and Latin American & Caribbean Art is responsible for overseeing, developing, researching, and presenting the Latin American & Caribbean collections and assisting as necessary with the Museum’s collection of European art. These duties include implementing exhibitions (in the range of $10,000 – $200,000), negotiating international loans, inventorying and managing the collections, recommending acquisitions as well as conservation and other care, and researching and writing publications in areas of responsibility. The Curator works closely with on- and off-campus communities to build Latinx engagement and organizes major annual events (including Día de los Muertos). This position is also responsible for strengthening the JSMA as a nationally recognized teaching museum, directing the museum’s Academic Support Program through curricula across campus. The Curator of Academic Programs and Latin American & Caribbean Art reports to the Chief Curator and supervises one or more full-time post-graduate externs, fellows, and interns, and undergraduate and graduate students working in the museum for academic credit and as volunteers.



Requirements

Minimum Requirements
• MA in art history, with a focus on modern or contemporary Latin American & Caribbean art.
• Three years’ museum experience working on curatorial or education projects.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English): essential for communicating with museums, galleries, artists, and collectors in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Spain to support JSMA collections research, development, exhibitions, programs, and fundraising and to further the museum’s Latin American strategic plan.
