Description

The City of Mesa, Arizona, is seeking a Director for the i.d.e.a. Museum (imagination, design, experience, arts) after the retirement of long-time director Sunnee O’Rork. The Director (City title: Youth Museum Administrator) is a senior manager within the City’s Arts and Culture Department and reports to the Director of Arts and Culture. This position leads the museum staff, setting programmatic and operational priorities, articulating and leading the implementation of vision and long-term strategies, and acting as the liaison to the i.d.e.a. Museum Foundation, a 501(c)3 support organization. i.d.e.a. Museum’s next director should be an experienced, creative and skilled leader, able to work with staff and volunteers to enhance the museum’s programs and facilities. Experience with serving family/youth audiences, interactive arts, science and/or technology programs is preferred, along with the ability to lead a highly creative team with energy and vision.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in senior museum management, as well as fundraising and audience development. Experience in municipal government and capital campaigns is a plus. The City of Mesa seeks an innovative thought leader, an outgoing and articulate spokesperson, and a community-engaged advocate.

Minimum Qualifications Required.  Any combination of training, education, or experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Art Education, Art, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, or a related field.  Extensive (5+ years) progressively responsible experience in the organization and management of museum work, including considerable (3 - 5 years) supervisory experience.
