Description
This position is for an Archivist with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, Soo Area Office. Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Branch Chief. Technical guidance is available from the Regional Coordinator of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Assignments are performed to meet the objectives in accordance with regulatory directives such as AR 870.5, Army Records Information Management System (ARIMS), and NARA records management guidance.
•Performs original organization and modified cataloging of archival materials and archaeological associated
documentation
•Applies knowledge of archival cataloging systems and professional standards.
•Develops classification systems to facilitate access to archival materials and maintains finding aids
•Assists with the electronic document systems, the archival preservation of electronic media, and applicable
professional standards for these materials.
•Inspects records to determine the state of their preservation.
•Prepares and maintains a comprehensive strategic plan for the management of the archival records.
•Provides reference and research assistance to Area Office personnel, customers, and contractors.
•Interviews and interacts with customers to establish user needs.

Requirements
In order to qualify for this position: Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two
years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.
Education for the GS-07: Bachelor's degree or One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.
Education for the GS-09: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.
